THE F.B.I.'S EFFECT ON AFRICAN AMERICANS

The FBI has had a complex relationship with African Americans throughout its history. The FBI’s surveillance of African Americans and Black rights organizations grew out of the bureau’s larger espionage operation known as COINTELPRO, the now infamous program launched in 1956 to snuff out communism in the United States.

Half of the 250 Kids Expelled from Preschool Each Day Are Black Boys


The rate of expulsion is much higher among Black boys. Half of the 17,000 preschool students who were suspended or expelled nationwide in 2021 were Black boys—even though they represent about 20 percent of enrolled children.


A September 2021 study published in the journal Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences found that teachers tended to complain more about Black students, particularly Black boys.
