Racism In Sports? ASK A.I.

Racism in sports is a pervasive issue that manifests in various ways. When players of color are in the spotlight during major international competitions, racism can intensify. For instance, during the UEFA Euro 2020 final, English players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka faced torrents of anti-black racist abuse after missing their shots in the penalty shoot-out.

This predictable racism denies the reality of diversity and belonging. Historically, diverse sports teams winning world cups have been seen as anti-racist triumphs, but when these teams lose, exclusionary and racist nationalist sentiments often resurface. Fans may deny that players of color truly belong to the nation, perpetuating harmful stereotypes.
